The handle is made from lightweight high-strength 6061 aluminum, sized for comfortable handling and knurled for a non-slip grip. The dehooker is constructed of high-quality 17-4 stainless steel alloy (we call it "unobtanium," because it's expensive and hard to get), providing a yield strength over 100,000 pounds per square inch - more than three times stronger than lower-cost stainless steels typically used in inferior competitive products. Our compact, single-axis dehooker design fits into tight spots so the hook can be pushed, pulled, or twisted as required, depending on the orientation of the hook in the fishes' mouth.

The dehooker alone is worth the price of the tool, but the SnapperSaver also has a quality venting tool built right in. The venting tool is a durable 12 gage stainless-steel hypodermic needle mounted to a spring-loaded plunger. The needle stays safely tucked away inside the handle, so you won't even notice it's there until you need it. The tapered tail-piece guides placement of the tool at the optimal 45 degrees for entry of the needle into the fishes' body cavity. Just place the tool on the fish and slowly insert the needle until escaping gas can be heard, then release.
